Learn About Trees

At Baytown Tree Service our main goal is keeping your trees healthy and beautiful for many generations. For this reason, we devote countless hours of learning about all the many tree species and varieties within a species. Since so much of the land we live in is now divided into subdivisions and urban areas, trees are thus out of their natural habitat, which is a forest. Therefore, when we as home or business owners have trees on our property, or plant trees, we are responsible for their upkeep, ensuring they have all necessary nutrients, food, and water to thrive.
Trees in forests have an abundance of these required items from the forest floor. In neighborhoods and cities, trees must vie with large lawns, shrubbery, and many other forms of plant life to live and be healthy.
Also, urban areas abound with streets and concrete, and large parking areas. have you ever wondered how all of this affects our trees? Seeing a cracked sidewalk or road where a tree root system has broken through, simply means that tree was trying to breathe, and needed water!
There are thousands of pages of information available to learn about trees and their many benefits. We have condensed some of this to show you how you can help Your trees thrive, and ways they greatly enhance our quality of life.

  • Trees shelter your home or business from cold winter winds-saving estimates of 10-20% in heating costs!
  • Conversely, shade from trees saves greatly on costs from running your air conditioner
  • Well-kept Trees increase the financial value of your property-by 15% or more!
  • Streams and rivers benefit by being cleaned by trees-and they hold soil in place.
  • Trees give off the very oxygen we breathe-a gift no one can do without!
  • Healthy trees make any neighborhood more beautiful-and safe-(see fun & useful facts-pg bottom)

Why We Love Them

Who has not stopped to marvel at the beauty, grace, and sometimes very unusual appearance of a tree? Do you love the trees on your property and want them to carry their beauty to future generations, like a precious heirloom?
As mentioned elsewhere in our Baytown, Texas Tree Service site, trees are the very best "givers"! Of course, most of us love trees for what we can see, touch, or even eat! The beauty of any species of a healthy tree actually is calming to humans, their very color, mostly green, is soothing and removes glare. The fruit and nuts we can get from trees are a very wonderful gift. Who does not love fresh-picked oranges, pears, and apples, or a yummy bowl of walnuts and pecans, for examples?
However, trees give so many other benefits to mankind we may not even be aware of! (see Unseen Gifts)

Hardwood & Softwood
Have you ever wondered if your trees are Hardwood or Softwood? Or what the main differences are? The following is a basic synopsis of both tree types. For an in-depth assessment of Your trees, and how best to care for them, their value financially, and other questions, schedule an Assessment with the knowledgeable, courteous Certified Arborist with Baytown Tree Service. Knowledge is power-which means keeping your trees in tip-top shape through the well-versed, dedicated pros with Baytown Tree Service!    281-805-8734
The physical structure generally indicates what type of tree it is -soft or hardwood-with a few exceptions.
Hardwood trees come from plants that flower-such as Oak, Maple, or Walnut. Their growth rate is quite slow compared to Softwoods. They shed leaves through the fall and winter. Hardwoods are usually denser and have a longer lasting life than the softwoods.
Softwood trees come from evergreen cones-such as spruce and the various pines-which generally have needles they keep year-round. They are faster growing and the world's timber supply is about 80% softwood.
Typically the wood of Hardwood is denser and will last longer than softwood-making it more expensive. Another reason Hardwood is more expensive is they are more resistant to decay as a rule.
Hardwood examples include Poplar, Magnolia, Walnut, Teak, Mahogany, Hickory, Beech and Alder.
Other Softwoods include Cedar, Juniper, Yew, and Redwood.

Protecting Our Trees

Our suburban and urban trees, even trees on many acres of property, are out of their natural living space. Just as we receive gifts from trees, our trees need home and property owners to give back. Our trees are susceptible to countless threats! When they do not have enough moisture and nutrients, for example, the result is poor growth, discolored foliage, and inability to stem off disease and insect threats-just as a human being is more susceptible to sicknesses when unhealthy or undernourished!
Baytown TX Tree Service has four generations of family and friends dedicated to amassing knowledge, skill, and credentials to preserve our trees and satisfy our clients. We appreciate customers who are as passionate about the life and health of their trees as we are. Therefore, you can be confident your trees are in the best hands available for whatever ails them, or just to maintain optimum health. Baytown Tree Service will protect and nourish your trees from Disease, Insects, Storm Threats, human error, and provide folks with a gorgeous, healthy aspect of your Landscaping that will be enjoyed for many lifetimes -at Affordable rates for any budget! Useful & Fun Tree Facts:
  • Try to avoid planting flowers around the base of a tree-the complex root system is often not deep and subject to damage
  • One mature tree has the capacity to absorb 50lbs of carbon dioxide yearly-and produce 250-20 lbs of oxygen-plant trees!
  • One Oak can sustain the life of over 280 types of non-harmful insects-while providing food for them and small mammals in the form of lichen-giving again!
  • Trees defend themselves! If attacked by certain insects, phenolics cover the tree-a nasty taste to invaders-and it warns other trees to prepare! Awesome!
  • Lastly, for now, neighborhoods with healthy trees are proven to be passed up by criminals-well-kept trees suggest concerned owners with sophisticated alarm systems-plant trees!
